Suburbs in Logan City’s west crippled by fast-growing populations and a lack of public transport are set to receive new transport services, thanks to funding outlined in today’s state budget.
Major funding to build new roads for future developments was also announced.
Additional bus services are heading to some of Logan’s fastest growing suburbs – Logan Reserve, Bahrs Scrub and Park Ridge.
Meanwhile, Yarrabilba will soon have an “on demand” public transport service to replace buses in times when they aren’t avaliable, as well as an updated route to Loganlea train station.
Previously, the on demand service was trialled across suburbs in the city’s nothern, eastern and central suburbs.
The frequency of bus routes between Springwood, Loganholme, Woodridge, Loganlea and Browns Plains will increase, and Berrinba will get its first ever buses.
Deputy premier, treasurer and Woodridge MP Cameron Dick said increasing accessibility to bus links was “doing what matters”.
“We want public transport to be more attainable for everyone regardless of where people live, so they can get home to their families faster,” he said.
These additions will be rolled out over the next two years.
The budget also allocated hundreds of millions to other transport projects, including:
- $31.9 million out of a total $1 billion for the M1 upgrades from Daisy Hill to the Logan Motorway; and
- $500 million out of a total $5.75 billion towards the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail.
$42 million out of a total $50 million was dedicated to delivering infrastructure to the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) – including an extension of Teviot Road and the construction of new roads to make way for future developments.
The government predicts the creation of just two roads – Flinders Lakes Drive and Water Main – will facilitate 7286 lots in the south-west part of the PDA by 2051.
The government said this would cost $683.5 million in residential civil construction and $2.01 billion in residential housing construction, and create around 486 construction jobs over the next 30 years.
More than $30 million was outlined for the construction of two future school’s at high-growth suburbs Greenbank and Park Ridge, which combined will cost a total $148 million.
The budget also dedicated $53.6 million to social housing in the city, $14.1 million to building an employment and training facility, and $80 million to expanding Logan Hospital.
