Satellite hospital opens for north Logan residents

Northern Logan residents have extra healthcare options following the opening of the Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital on Monday morning (27 May).

The hospital includes a minor injury and illness clinic, kidney dialysis chars, cancer day therapy chairs, outpatient consultation rooms, and medical imaging and diagnostic services — including ultrasound, x-ray, and pathology.

Around 100 health care workers have been employed to run the $65.4 million facility, which the government hopes will relieve pressure on nearby emergency departments; including at Logan Hospital.

“I’m so pleased to see our community of Logan about to share in the benefits that satellite hospitals are brining across the south-east,” Woodridge MP, deputy premier and treasurer Cameron Dick said.

“By reducing the pressure on our major hospitals and on GP clinics, we are delivering more responsive healthcare, which matters to Queenslanders.

“The tens of thousands of patients seen at our satellite hospitals would never have been treated this way under David Crisafulli, because the LNP has never supported satellite hospitals.

“Satellite hospitals would cease to exist under the LNP, who could not afford to operate them like we do.

The Member for Waterford and Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Shannon Fentiman, said she was proud to open the hospital.

“The Queensland government is investing in the Australian-first satellite hospitals program to help meet the demand for healthcare in our fastest growing regions,” she said.

“More than 25,000 additional residents will call Brisbane’s southern suburbs home in the next decade.

“The Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital will be a gamechanger for this growing community, providing healthcare closer to home for residents.”

The hospital, located at 59 Levington Rd, opened at 8am.

The minor injury and illness clinic will be open extended hours, from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.
