National minimum monthly wage to be increased by Rs. 5,000 – Adaderana Biz English

The Cabinet of Ministers has presented its approval to amend the Nationwide Bare minimum Wage of Workers Act No. 03 of 2016 to raise the minimum month-to-month wage and day by day wage of all staff in any business.

This was proposed by the tripartite sub-committee of trade unions representing Smaller- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and personnel appointed by the Nationwide Labour Advisory Council.

The relevant proposal was presented to the Cabinet assembly held on Monday (March 25) by Minister of Labour and Overseas Employment Manusha Nanayakkara.

Appropriately, it is proposed to improve the least every month wage by Rs. 5,000, to Rs. 17,500.

In addition, the minimum daily wage of employees is proposed to be elevated from Rs. 500 to Rs. 700.
