Funding priorities for Forde

Highly anticipated shopping precinct

WHEN queried or surveyed the people of Logan Reserve had one overwhelming answer when it came to the question – ‘what does this community need?’

The answer nine times out of ten? A shopping precinct and supermarket.

When you just need to rush out quickly to gather up some ingredients for a quick-fix dinner, Logan Reserve residents had grown frustrated with having to venture down to Marsden or to Park Ridge Town Centre shops.

Well, on Wednesday, their desires were realised.

Logan Reserve Shopping Village is now open and trading.

More than a dozen retailers now call the centre home, including a BWS and Chemist Warehouse, a café, as well as several specialty retailers, food operators, a 24 hour Anytime Fitness and a medical centre.

The biggest though, is a new Woolworths which is set to employ upwards of 120 people.

Between them and the rest of the retailers, roughly 200 locals will be employed.

I want to congratulate Woolworths on their tremendous investment into the Logan community.

This is a wonderful addition to an ever-expanding area.

I was at the sod-turn in October 2022 for the Chambers Flat Rd and Park Ridge Rd precinct.

But this hasn’t just been in the works for two years – the concept and planning has been rumbling away for a decade now.

So, it was certainly a proud day for all those involved.

It’s no secret that the Logan local government area is growing.

More than Ipswich, more than the Gold Coast, Logan is the fastest growing local government area in Queensland.

And of all that entire region – Chambers Flat and Logan Reserve are growing the quickest.

The population of the Logan LGA is expected to rise by an additional 220,000 people in the next dozen years.

So, jobs are a necessity, and the addition of this shopping complex is vital.

It was wonderful to see so many turn out for the ribbon cutting and to have multiple local schools involved.

I look forward to working with store manager Sally and all the Woolies team and other retailers moving forward.
